Toys and Games Articles

I grew up before video games, so, I only had basic toys - wooden toys, board games and the like. My favorite childhood toy was my bicycle. Besides the fun of just riding, my bicycle enabled me to travel to my favorite butterfly collecting locale, visit friends and provided general transportation. My trips were rarely over two or three miles, although one time I used my bike to go to a sale at a bookstore seven miles away, quite a distance for a thirteen year old. Later on, my bicycle helped me make money delivering papers – The Detroit Times. My friends and I played games with out bicycles, but, when it came to games, Canasta was our favorite game. We tried Chess, Checkers, Monopoly and various other board games, but, we always came back to Canasta. It was the best. In the summer we would ride our bicycles to the park and play Canasta all day. In the winter, we played Canasta and stayed warm. Today, bicycles are still popular, but, does anyone play Canasta anymore? |
