I was working on a construction site on a 5 storey building. I didn't like to use the safety rope and I used to say "Hey, nothing is going to happen to me", but I was a fool. Our company didn't even issue any properppe clothing either. That day, June 5th, I was wrong. The scaffolding where I was broke and I was all by myself. I thought I was going to die, but I didn't. I don't know why but for some unknown reason I did use the safety rope on that day. The moment when I fell was scary. I thought only about my family and how this tragedy would affect them. I'm no religious man, but thanks God for the safety rope, it saved my life, and I bet it saved a lot of other lifes too. Now I always use the safety rope. It's better to be safe than sorry, it's what my wife always tell me. |

Unlike so many today who seem to want to move every two or three years, my parents lived at the same place for over 50 years. Their old farmhouse and outbuildings on the property were crammed full of stuff (things they of course treasured and couldn't or wouldn't get rid of, which was at least partially caused, no doubt, by having gone through the Great Depression) for as long as I can remember. My husband and I were fortunate in that they did do some cleaning up of their place on their own before they moved to a smaller ranch-style home. However, my father and mother somehow had left a lot of the clean-up to the two of us (and whoever I could hire to help me out with the cleaning up). My husband was previously involved in oil tank removal so was used to hard work, so we were prepared for this job. When it was finally decided we had to clean up the property to get it ready for selling, I knew I had to get some help, so employed a couple of friends of ours who were great at cleaning. If it were not for their help, it's doubtful we could have taken care of such a monumental task just by ourselves. |

My sister and her husband recently filed for a divorce and even though it has yet to be finalized she wanted to move out of their conjugal place as soon as possible. But since she also wanted to take all of her Italian furniture collection she needed some place to keep them while she is still looking for a new home. My sister already agreed to stay with me for the time being and as for a storage room I told her that there is a pre fabricated steel building beside my apartment that I believe can be rented. She was thrilled of the possibility so I gave her the number of the owner so that she can already make the necessary inquiry and arrangements. I really hope that everything will turn out well for her because I know that she already has been through a lot and if there is one person in this world who needed a break, it would be my sister. |
